1970s Shell Cameo Earrings in 14K Gold
These earrings deserve a star role in your wardrobe; they’re just too lovely to play a cameo appearance. This classic pair of shell cameo earrings date from the 1970s and are carved in mirror image-- so the women in profile face opposite directions; they can both look at you, or both look away. With their regal associations dating back to the Renaissance and longstanding popularity in jewelry, cameos are truly timeless. Cameos are a relief carving through colored layers in shell, coral, agates, or gemstones. The relief of the women on these shell earrings is surrounded in the perfect peachy color. As in most cameos, because they are hand carved the women are not identical, you will notice slight variations in their facial features and hair styles. Each shell cameo is bezel set in a rope edged 14k gold frame with attached kidney ear wires. These beauties really frame the face!
The earrings are in excellent vintage condition. There is some solder visible on the back of the earrings inside the frame, where the hook attaches. The earrings are hallmarked 14k on the back of one frame. The cameos measure about 1/2” across and 5/8” including the frame. The total length of the earrings from the top of the wire is 7/8”. They weigh 4.6 grams.
