14k Yellow Gold Yale Record "Old Owl" Charm with Enamel circa 1915
Scholars and Yale alums alike will rejoice over this darling 14k gold charm. Dated circa 1915, the "Old Owl" charm is almost as old as the humor magazine. The Yale Record was founded in 1872 and continues to make readers hoot today. This piece of school memorabilia features the magazine's mascot with his wings outstretched wearing a graduation mortar board cap. The top of his cap is enameled with "YALE RECORD" in cobalt blue. The back of his cap is affixed with an attached loop and jump ring for hanging. Whether for a graduation or a recent acceptance, this piece is sure to charm any recipient.
The charm is in excellent antique condition. There is slight enamel loss in the lettering visible only under magnification with a loupe (see photos). The owl's wings span 1 3/8" and the charm measures 1" long including the jump ring. The charm weighs 5.8 grams. Tested 14k gold.
